Metal Laser Cutting
Laser cutting involves the use of a focused, intense beam of light which, when incident on the selected type of material, significantly increases its temperature in spots, causing a gap to form. When we add to this the movement of the cutting head along the points/curves we have determined, we finally obtain a part with the selected geometry.

What can be cut with a laser?
Due to the characteristics of different materials and their behaviour during laser cutting, laser cutters are adapted to cut specific types of material. A metal laser, for example, can only cut this type of material. The thickness of the parts to be cut depends largely on the power of the source of the laser cutter used.
What laser for cutting sheet metal?
Due to the way the focused laser beam is produced and guided, laser cutting machines are divided into CO2 and Fiber technology. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. It should be borne in mind, however, that no machine can do everything for us. Often, more important than the chosen technology is experienced staff to ensure that all the quality requirements of the ordered components are met.
Accuracy of laser cutting
Laser cutting using quality laser cutting machines will ensure very high accuracy and repeatability of the cut parts in terms of linear dimensions and required shape tolerances. Depending on the complexity of the component, ISO 2768 fine / medium tolerances are achievable.
Laser cutting - what affects price?
The most important influence on price in the laser cutting process is:
- the batch size of the material concerned
- material type
- material thickness
- accuracy required
PIOLUM was founded by a group of engineers specialising in the processing of metal components. Its aim is to provide a proven and stable supply chain for components requiring high quality workmanship in laser cutting, sheet metal bending and ancillary processes.
